Horse training IS hard, but you've got this...

Horse training isn’t always sunshine and gallops, it can be confusing, emotional, even overwhelming. But you’re not alone, and most importantly: you’ve got this.

Whether you’re just starting your journey or you’re navigating a tricky stage with your current horse, this post is for you.
Let’s talk about what makes horse training hard and why that’s exactly what makes it so worthwhile...

THE STRUGGLE IS REAL AND THAT'S OK

I’ve been there.
Frustrated, stuck, alone, feeling like no one had the answers. Back in the day, before social media exploded and online learning became so accessible, struggling with your horse could feel truly isolating.

These days, we’re lucky where resources, inspiration, and support are just a few clicks away. But even with all that, horse training can still be hard.

Especially if:

  • You’re a first-time horse owner
  • You’re working toward higher-level goals
  • You’ve taken on a horse with “people problems”

It’s not impossible. It’s just that, like any meaningful pursuit, horse training takes time, patience, and a whole lot of self-compassion. You have to let your mind and your body sync up. You’ll have days where it clicks and days where it doesn’t.

But the payoff? Unmatched.

YOU DON’T NEED TO DO THIS ALONE

That’s why I created my Online Training Academy to give you structure, tools, and a safe space to learn, share, and grow. The community is kind, supportive, and built on one golden rule: no question is a stupid question.

In fact, some of the most “silly” questions are the ones that open up the best learning moments for everyone.

YES, HORSES CAN SMILE (AND YOU WILL TOO)

There’s something incredibly rewarding about working through your struggles and coming out the other side. Whether you’re finally coordinating your aids in the saddle, earning your horse’s trust on the ground, or just understanding a concept that used to feel murky, that growth is real.

And guess what?
Your horse feels it too. They may not give you a thumbs-up, but they do show us through their energy, their stillness, and yes, even their smiles.

SAFETY FIRST, ALWAYS

Horses are big. Horses are fast. And yes, horses can be dangerous. It’s our job to respect that.

I’ve seen many accidents in my lifetime, serious ones. The best thing we can do to avoid them is to stay honest about our skill level and ask for help when we need it. No one is immune from having a bad day, but I think we owe it to ourselves and our horses to keep improving.

LEARN TO BE INSPIRED - NOT INTIMIDATED

In my community, comparison is not welcome but inspiration is encouraged. If someone seems “better” than you, instead of feeling envious, ask yourself:

  • What are they doing differently?
  • Can I try that too?
  • Am I putting in the same level of practice and time?

Be honest. Be curious. And be kind to yourself.

FIND YOUR TRIBE (AND DON’T BE AFRAID TO RE-FIND IT)

Surround yourself with people who uplift you and encourage you. And if the people around you no longer match your values, don’t be afraid to move on.

The right tribe will help light your spark or even turn it into a flame.
That’s what I aim to offer my students: support, encouragement, and when necessary, a little bit of tough love to help you grow.

THIS IS YOUR SIGN TO KEEP GOING

Whatever you’re working on - trail confidence, groundwork, liberty, lateral work, or just plain getting your horse caught in the paddock, remember you’ve got this. Not because you’re perfect, but because you’re showing up. That’s all your horse wants.

The horse world can be a tricky one. But with the right education, mindset, and support around you, it can become something truly magical.
